Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that many businesses are shifting gears to Instagram for business social media marketing.

According to Instagram, the possible reach for your business is booming! Here’s a few recent stats that they put up on their website:

  • 800 Million+ Instagram accounts worldwide are active every single month.
  • 500 Million+ Instagram accounts worldwide are active every day.
  • 80 Percent of accounts follow a business on Instagram.
  • 300 Million+ accounts use Instagram Stories every day.


There are so many reasons to start advertising your business on Instagram and start connecting with people. But what if you already have an Instagram Business account but aren’t seeing any results? Well, I’m here to help! We’re going to take a quick look at some of the more common (and easily fixable) problems that people run into while trying to build some momentum.

Convert to an Instagram Business account if you haven’t already.

Why? By doing this, you’ll get access to valuable analytics and tools. Additionally, Instagram allows businesses to “boost” their posts to increase visibility which you can’t do from a regular Instagram account.

Go live on Instagram.

Did you know that you can go live on Instagram? You can! And even better, this pushes your video to the front of the list in Instagram Stories, thus making your profile even more visible. The “LIVE” logo that is applied also makes your profile photo more prominent.

Instagram Live videos aren’t very mainstream right now so it may be just what your brand needs to stand out in a sea of photos.

Don’t just post for the sake of posting.

Yes, it’s great to have a lot of content. However, what is more important, is the quality of that content. The more thought you put into the content that you put out, the more your followers will appreciate the hard work you put into your account.

Engagement. Know it, learn it, love it. Are you giving your followers a reason to engage with your content? You can post a pretty photo but it will be rare for people to comment if they don’t feel a connection. Some great ways to do this are by posting engagement questions:

  • What is your favorite time of the year?
  • If you could only have one app on your phone, what would it be?
  • What five things could you not live without?

You get the idea. People LOVE, LOVE to talk about themselves, so give them the venue to do that through your brand!


When you post a photo, are you researching your hashtags? More often than not, I hear that people will try to think of a hashtag that simply describes their photo, or the one that I see the most is the long-winded original hashtag: #TodayIwentforawalkandsawabird

These hashtags may be fun but they are not going to generate traffic to your profile. There are some really great websites out there that will show you the most popular hashtags right now. You can even enter the hashtag you want to use at to see how popular it will and determine if you may need a new hashtag to use.

Engage With Others

Building a following on Instagram doesn’t mean that you post everyday and a following magically appears. Engage with others on the platform in similar industries. If someone leaves you a comment on your post, make sure to respond to it! This is basic customer service but something that a lot of businesses have a tendency to overlook.

Do you find it difficult to respond because you have so many social media platforms that you are using? Utilize IGTV

Many people don’t realize that they have access to IGTV. If your primary goal for Instagram is to drive traffic to your website, this is a BIG one. The cool thing about IGTV is that you can include clickable links in your description. Yassss.

Furthermore, Instagram has been making a large push towards including more IGTV results in the discover feature. Some good ways to create videos for IGTV is to use a service like They offer a free trial to start out and the neat thing about them is that you can include a link to your blog and it will create a teaser video using your content you’ve already created.
